چکیده

Imagination is generally regarded as a very powerful and advanced cognitive ability. In this paper we propose a modelling framework for what we call functional imagination: the ability of an embodied agent to simulate its own behaviors, predict their sensory-based consequences, and extract behavioural benefit from doing so. We identify five key components of architectures for functional imagination, and claim that they may be both necessary and sufficient. We outline a typical architecture, explain the flow of control within it, and describe a typical testing scenario using nested physics-based robot models. We also show how malfunctions within such an architecture may produce effects reminiscent of those found in certain human pathologies.

Disentangling motor execution from motor imagery with the phantom limb.

Amputees can move their phantom limb at will. These 'movements without movements' have generally been considered as motor imagery rather than motor execution, but amputees can in fact perform both executed and imagined movements with their phantom and they report distinct perceptions during each task. Behavioural evidence for this dual ability comes from the fact that executed movements are ass...

Imagining Imagination: A Computational Framework Using Associative Memory Models and Vector Space Models

Imagination is considered an important component of the creative process, and many psychologists agree that imagination is based on our perceptions, experiences, and conceptual knowledge, recombining them into novel ideas and impressions never before experienced. As an attempt to model this account of imagination, we introduce the Associative Conceptual Imagination (ACI) framework that uses ass...

Exploring the role of repetition and sensory elaboration in the imagination inflation effect

Imagination as a cause of memory distortion has generated much recent interest. Researchers have demonstrated that memories for both childhood events and more recent actions are influenced by imagination (Garry, Manning, Loftus, & Sherman, 1996; Goff & Roediger, 1998). Typically, confidence in the occurrence of fictitious events increases after those events have been imagined— a phenomenon call...

Fisher’s Linear Discriminant Analysis for Weather Data by reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces framework

Recently with science and technology development, data with functional nature are easy to collect. Hence, statistical analysis of such data is of great importance. Similar to multivariate analysis, linear combinations of random variables have a key role in functional analysis. The role of Theory of Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces is very important in this content. In this paper we study a gen...
